Course Overview
This one‑day RYA First Aid Course is designed for anyone who goes afloat—whether you are a yachtsman undertaking channel passages or a powerboater enjoying Southampton Water. The course covers essential first aid topics, with a strong emphasis on the unique challenges of providing care at sea.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with practical skills to manage medical emergencies on board, ensuring safety and confidence in remote or maritime environments.
- AED training is delivered using TabletAED, which students can download to their own devices.
Instructor Expertise
The course is usually taught by our Principal Instructor, who brings extensive real‑world experience with over 30,000 miles at sea, including Atlantic crossings.

This course meets the requirements for:

Professional skippers of small craft operating within 60 miles of a safe haven (including Boatmasters).

Offshore racers requiring the Senior First Aid Certificate under ISAF regulations (OSR 4.08.4).

Location
Training is normally held at Hythe Community Centre (hythecommunity.org.uk). Sessions may also take place at Hythe Marina or Hythe Sailing Club, all within a short walk from Hythe Ferry, with easy access to Southampton mainline railway station.
Nearby you’ll find sandwich shops and cafés. Tea and coffee are provided, but please bring or purchase lunch locally. Breaks include 30 minutes for lunch plus morning and afternoon coffee breaks.
