Booking

Bookings may be made through our website, or by telephone, e-mail or completion of an application form (see website). Full payment is required to confirm bookings made within 28 days of the start date of the course, or 25% deposit is required for bookings made more than 28 days before the course begins. Telephone and e-mail bookings will be acknowledged within 5 working days. Bookings will be confirmed on receipt of full payment or deposit, and receipt of payment or booking form or both will indicate that our Terms and Conditions have been accepted. The deposit is non-refundable once a booking is accepted. All bookings will be confirmed in writing by the issue of a booking confirmation and joining instructions.  The balance of fees must be paid 28 days prior to the course start date. If the balance of fees is not received 28 days before the course commencement date, Jolly Roger Sailing Ltd reserves the right to cancel the booking and offer it for resale – final reminders will not be sent and the client remains liable for the balance of fees. Bookings made less than 28 days before the course commencement date must be accompanied by full payment. Bookings from those under 18 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian taking the same course.

Attending Shore Based Courses

Shore based courses usually take place in a rented public building:

  1. (a) Such a building may be expected to be clean with toilet facilities and fire escapes. Adequate car parking cannot be guaranteed.
  2. (b) Clients are expected to comply with any rules governing the use of such buildings.

Most courses will be held in “Hythe Community Centre”. Clients are required to abide by the rules of the Centre and not to bring the activities of Jolly Roger Sailing Ltd into disrepute. As car parking is limited, alternative long-stay car parking is available very close by at Hythe Library car park at the client’s own expense. Jolly Roger Sailing Ltd will not be liable for any damage to any vehicle parked at or near the classroom, or for any loss of or damage to personal possessions.

Any aggression/violence or towards our instructors, other clients or members of the public will me immediate removal from the course with no refund of fees.

Course Accreditation

All Jolly Roger Sailing Ltd courses are subject to specific conditions and requirements which include a minimum expected standard, details of which will be available prior to enrolment on specific courses. Shore based courses are carried out to the specification and accreditation required by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).

Jolly Roger Sailing Ltd has high standards of instruction and applies RYA guidelines on the issue of certificates. Certificates will not be issued if, in the opinion of the instructor, the client has not reached the necessary standard. The awarding of any certificate of competence is at the discretion of Jolly Roger Sailing Ltd, its instructors or hired examiners. In the circumstance that a client has not reached the required standard, the instructor will work with the client to develop an action plan to help him/her meet the standard. Jolly Roger Sailing Ltd offers re-sits or partial re-sits of assessments at the client’s own expense, which will be discussed and agreed with us.

A client to whom a certificate of competence is not awarded has the right to make a complaint, giving reasons. Complaints must be addressed first for review to Jolly Roger Sailing Ltd. If a satisfactory agreement is not reached, the complaint will be referred to the RYA for arbitration.

Cancellation

A client who cannot attend a course must let Jolly Roger Sailing Ltd know as soon as possible. If the client wishes to change or cancel a booking within 28 days of the course start date Jolly Roger Sailing Ltd will not be liable for the return of the deposit or any other payments, but will attempt to resell the place on the course and, if successful in reselling the course at the full advertised price, will refund all monies, less a 5% administration fee. Cancellation more than 28 days prior to the course commencement date will result in the forfeit of the deposit only. All courses are run on a basis that a minimum of 4 people will attend. In the event of any cancellation by Jolly Roger Sailing Ltd because of circumstances beyond its control, including, lack of customers, sickness, accidents, travel delays, weather, strikes, war or civil disturbance, alternative dates will be offered, or the course fees will be fully refunded. No liability will be accepted by Jolly Roger Sailing Ltd for incidental expenses incurred, including but not be limited to travel and hotel expenses. If you drop out during the course no refunds can be offered. We recommend that you take out insurance to cover these.

GDPR

Address and contact details are collected at the start of the course to ensure correspondence with clients and to ensure we have emergency contact details. If you wish, at the end of your course we will remove your details. E Mail address are kept on a data base that will send out occasional emails about our courses and offers. Again, if you wish not to receive these please send a polite email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to be removed. Marketing emails should be no more than once a month along with any news about our courses, or offers with our partners.

Courses delivered via RYA Interactive

For Jolly Roger Sailing to enable access to your online course we need to share some of your personal data with the RYA via your user profile in www.ryainteractive.org. This learning management website is hosted and maintained by a third party called Learning Pool, who will not use your personal information for any reason other than enabling your course.

Your name and email address will be entered on www.ryainteractive.org in order to create your user account. On your first access to the site, you will be asked to enter your address and date of birth. You will have access to the site for one year in order to complete your online course. During this period, your personal information will be held on the website by Learning Pool and be available to this training centre and the RYA for the purpose of managing your course.

Instructional support will be provided by this training centre for a period of 6 Months from the date of your course booking.

On completion of your course, your name, email, date of birth and address will be transferred to the RYA's central database for the purpose of recording details of the course and any certification you gain as a result of it. This information allows the RYA to record your certification, to update any records they may already hold about you or your qualifications and to verify your certificate if required.

After one year from the date of your enrolment on a course, your user account will be removed from www.ryainteractive.org.

Full details of how the RYA will deal with your personal information will be displayed when you first access www.ryainteractive.org.

For the duration of your access to the site, your data will be held in accordance with the RYA Interactive Data Policy, Terms and Conditions.

If you receive a digital certificate downloaded from the RYA Interactive site on completion of your course, your name, address, date of birth and certificate details will be transferred to the RYA database and held in accordance with the RYA’s Privacy Policy.
